Good stuff and great about the 400m . Clearly your overall fitness is very good. But you are obviously not doing enough work 58-62 speed for 800 so the enzymes are not holding out well. The lack of power is just the body telling you that the chemistry is not happy running for so long at that speed. It does not reflect your base fitness. You just have to teach it by doing to change to the way you want it to be.. There is one horrible solution and that is just do lots more work at 400 pace and just below (and skip out the 2 mins bit altogether and go for 1:54) and start going through the 400 in 800s in 55/6 until something works. You clearly are happier running at the power type speeds so I would develop endurance on that level more. When you run in the park keep trying to increase the length of the first two runs. So dont stop until you have to at the end or add a bit longer at the beginning. Coe also used to do 4-6x2 mins to get used to running for this time. You could try that in the woods by measuring 800m and then just getting used to running strongly for that time (take a good rest between them of course)
With Tom Lerwill he used to run 2 mins at 140, 2 at 150, 2 at 160 and 2 at 170 then 2 as hard as he could. He had about 3-4 mins rest. That worked OK for him. World Junior Silver medal!!!!
